Skiing 2005-2006 Season
I was working out in the field during Dec & Jan and decided not to get the season pass this year. I wasn't sure how long I would be down in the pipe. I got back in early Feb and got in a few days to ease the urge, still not many days, but I can't complain. =)
4 times to the ski resorts (3 at nstar, 1 at kirkwood):
Feb 6, 2006 - kirkwood - Me & Jen Feb 17, 2006 - nstar - Me, Trev & Peter Feb 20, 2006 - nstar - Me, Trev, trev's co-workers (trevor, warren) Feb 24, 2006 - nstar - Me, Trev, Whitney

skiing - prepresidents dayTrev, Peter and I made it up for some skiing and boarding on Friday. It was an interesting trip in a few ways. peter came over from the bay area and spent the night with us on thursday. Problem was that he met us at our basketball game and decided he would hurt the top of his foot shooting around with us. When we woke up in the morning he was in extreme pain, but still couldn't pass up the chance to go, so we headed on up. As we all piled into my car and hit the road, chain requirements were on so we had to stop just before the summit and throw the cables on the tires. I really didn't think it was necessary but it does make people drive slower. Anyhow we threw those on (and another lady who asked us for some help) and started up over the summit. As we just passed the summit the cables on one of the tires broke and started making a lot of noise (they were rusted from use the year before). I attempted MacGyvering it a bit and we started along again. It worked for a little while, then since we were past the summit I decided to take them off. Smooth sailing again... We got to nstar with no problems and enjoyed the day. Although peter went off by himself and was in serious pain. We met up for lunch, somehow fandangled 3 full prime rib dinners in exchange for a coupon trev had and we chowed heartily... We finally went to go back home and had to put the cables back on (one set was broken). I got some wire cutters from a trucker and fixed them the best I could. We started going again and they broke again in another spot. We had to take those off and made it back home just fine. A good day overall. When we got back peter was still in a lot of pain and went to the doctor a couple days later to discover he had chipped a bone in his foot, thus snowboarding on it probably wasn't the best for it... oh well all in the name of fun... I would have liked to stay up in tahoe the whole weekend, but I'm still getting adjusted to being back home and took care of some chores and errands. (Besides better than fending off the 3-day weekend crowds...)

Kirkwood after the superbowlJen and I made it up for some skiing and boarding up at kirkwood on Monday. This was my first time up this season, guess I've been working too much down in SoCal... A good trip up to the snow. The snow was decent considering the conditions, it was beautiful weather for wakeboarding, it was almost hard to believe we were skiing. One thing I had forgotten since I've been getting the season pass to nstar and sierra was how gorgeous the drive to kirkwood could be. We saw some unreal skies and the Northern California foothills and tahoe area. Definitely worth a day up in the snow!!

Davis Stampede 2006 We got a group of us together again to do the Davis Stampede. This was probably the slowest run I've done in a while, guess my excuse is being out in the field and working too much...hmm... Here are some results:

The Relay Back so Soon?!!The Relay is back again but really quickly this year. Looks like they got their time slot in October yanked and they decided to do it on April 8 & 9 this year! That's a lot sooner than I was expecting to run this year, but kev and I got the call from Ian once again looking for runners... That's fine of course, but what does that leave me at this point? Nine weeks of prep for some more running. Gosh dang it, guess I'll have to get back on the horse. Don't know what legs I'll be running this year, I'll find out soon enough.
Back for Good? Ok, I made it back from my job down south. It's good to be back to someplace where I feel more comfortable and have all that I'm used to up here. I can't complain about my time spent down there at all, that's for sure. The project was completed, the client was happy and it was a good experience for me. Everyone was asking me if I learned a lot, and yes, I did learn somethings, but what I learned may have been a little different than I would have thought I would have. Work always involves more than you think it will and pondering the issues and differing circumstances that come up everyday are what keeps you interested in working. If the job would just have been the repair of 313 joints, I would have really gotten bored, and quick. But really it's the issues getting to that end result. How are you going to contain the lead? how are you going to protect the workers? what exactly needs to be done? what if we do it this way? what needs to be fixed? the compressor went down again. so and so needs some time off. do we have anyone else qualified? it's raining. the repairs are cracking. the plant needs to coordinate some work. there's something different...and more and more of the like. it usually feels like something is getting accomplished when problems are solved. one of my experiences that was highlighted was who you work and inneract with. that's what makes work enjoyable. working with other people with a desire to get things done and ability to work together to get to that end result. It's nice to be done with the project and be back home, but what I miss is all the things that come up everyday and working with everyone else. Maybe it'll be the same crew again next year if they decide to send me back down to work on the next line...we'll see...
currently living in sac, ca. working for water resources. went to ucd in civil, grew up in turlock, ca. there is a lot to say about me, i am constantly redefining myself everyday. i think the things i do define who i am on a certain level. although the more i communicate and interact with others the more i find out about myself. i can be completely happy without interaction with people though. when i run, when i bike, i am completely in my own thoughts, sometimes i just pay attention to my surroundings, other times, my mind is going a million miles a minute. sometimes i have such a big picture perspective, other times i will really focus on something specific. i'll keep living, learning, experiencing...
